Another month gone by as we are drawn closer to the Christmas season. We had another great month forfilling the Gospel of Jesus here in South Africa, and have had some great moments. Now feeling a bit tired - but very forfilling!!
Park People Outreach:
We have told you in our previous newsletters that we have been going to different areas around Pretoria helping to feed people that live outside in the Parks that are homeless and destitute.
Well – This past month, as well as feeding our regular park people (as above), we also went and found another group of people that we decided we should also reach out too.
There were about 30 men, women and boys we found living there in this group, a mixture of Malawi and Zimbabwe refugees that were living on the side of the road in make-shift sticks with plastic coverings and children’s tents, trying to sell wooden garden carvings etc, in order to survive.
Simon – a young Pastor/Evangelist that works with us on mass gospel crusades, shared with them all about Jesus, and led them all in the sinner’s prayer. (photo to the right)
We then gave them each some food. They were all absolutely ecstatic, that we would give them some bread etc….FOR FREE. These men were all very happy and grateful for what they received!!
We also gave to each of them that gave their heart to the Lord, an EHCSA booklet called: “The way to God”.
We went out to feed the homeless again - later on in October, not far from our house, and this time found so many more homeless young men (approx 20 – 30) living camped in a field, some with no shoes on their feet, some not even having clothing on their back – but truly half naked. (Possible illegal immigrants through the boarders from Mozambique) However we proceeded to feed these young men, and it shocked me this time just how truly hungrythey all were…like they had not eaten a proper meal in weeks!! (no photos to show you so far) They were all very scavenges in their “survival” state of mind, protecting what food we gave each one of them with everything they could, even to the extent of a few of them fighting to get food from the others – even though there was plenty to go round!
It really opened our eyes to how oblivious and numb we can all get in our protective surroundings of living – we can sometimes fail to see just how many people are in so much desperate need, and literally starving right on our back door step!! Isaiah 61 v 1-2
WitbankTownship/ Gospel Crusade:
Our team for this crusade was made up of: Hein & Dawid , Simon, Daniel, David, Des and Roslynn.
WOW - We really had the odds against us this time, as when we took our crusade truck, generator and bakkie across to Witbank on the previous Friday afternoon with our whole team, we did so in the midst of heavy torrential rain that decided to come very early in the wet season. Even so – our team had much faith and did not give up, but instead prayed vigorously each day. By Wednesday, we thought we could take a chance and put up all the speakers etc and give it a try as the sun came out for a day……… …….little did we know what was coming!!!
Later that afternoon when everything was finally set up, a sudden wind started to blow from the south that was VERY cold and strong. There was also a lot of lightning that started coming across our pathway very quickly, and even though the strong wind was blowing – the Lightning would not stop over us.
We carried on with our crusade in the midst of this, having faith - but that wind just kept getting stronger and colder. Some of our crusade guys fled to the truck to try and keep warm, while others found a large plastic covering and tried to get away from the chill of the wind by hiding behind that.
About half way (2 hours) through the meeting we all decided to call it quits – as it was not fare on the people having to sit there outside in the midst of this crazy storm in such cold & out of seasonal weather.
(Even all the Pastors were running off to their cars to put on their heaters to try and stay warm while the meeting was still on.)
So we ended up closing the meeting very early and then proceeded to take all our stuff down again. Bbbbrrrrrrr……… And then - Just after we finished closing the meeting – sleet started falling – almost snow, and yet we are meant to be going into summer here in South Africa. It was literally freezing!
Our guys were totally all like frozen ice cubes by the time we finally got home. One crazy crusade – unfortunately it was just one of those things that can’t be controlled! Hopefully things will work out better for everyone next year if we come back to Witbank area.
I really salute our guys for their perseverance and hard work, also for our sound guy, who for the whole evening was up high on that freezing sound tower monitoring the sound, without moaning about his circumstances once.
However - Looking past our circumstances in the natural – we still had a great time together with all new team members being so called ......“initiated” into the crusade team.
We love all our guys that work with us, and commend them all for their diligence, loyality and hard work in our L.E.I ministry!!
PLEASE HELP SUPPORT US FINANCIALLY, SO WE CAN GO TO FURTHER PLACES PREACHING THE GOSPEL HERE IN AFRICA! THANK YOU!
SoshenguveTownship Revival meetings: We headed up to the big township of Soshenguve this past month and held some Revival Meetings for the people there in a community hall. There were quite a few Pastors and other Evangelists involved in setting up these meetings for us. It was a hard situation though – as the summer wet seasonal rain decided over these nights of meetings to suddenly drop and fall from the sky – all at once (torrential), so the turnout was a bit smaller than expected due to all the rain, but in saying that – God still did what he had to do with the turnout that was faithfully there every night. We had a great time together!
A VERY BIG THANK YOU GOES OUT TO EHCSA FOR THEIR GIVING TO OUR MINISTRY 64 NEW BIBLES FOR RURAL PASTORS, IN 7 OF THE SPOKEN SOUTH AFRICA LANGUAGES.
Please pray for: ¨ New volunteers to come and join our LEI crusade team ¨ Financial support ¨ Favor with publishers for our new book ¨ Wisdom for planning crusades 2008
