                                                 November 2007

A great month full of exciting plans coming to pass from heaven above.

Homeless people in the city:

WOW  -  It’s been a privilege over these past 6 months to be able to help the homeless people in Pretoria South Africa due to the fact of our help from Woolworths supermarket S.A. They have served as a gateway and tremendous blessing to the community for all their giving.

We are at the point now where they (Woolworths) are giving us food every week. (every Friday) and so we have been expanding our area looking for those that are in desperate need.

This last hand out – we went to 7 different locations! Image

This month we found several women that were heavily pregnant living outside in an open field.
We also found many other adults (at least 30 – 40 others) that have strayed from Zimbabwe and Mozambique as illegal immigrants and were living in open fields with no covering, shade, clothes or food. They even had no pot to boil their food in.

We have given them all food this month and thanks to Mondeor primary school in Johannesburg giving us 40 rubbish bags fill of 2nd hand clothing – we were also able to hand out clothing to the adults and Ros also found babies clothes and blankets for the pregnant women.

This task of handing out food and clothes is not easy – in fact it is really heart wrenching, as you wish that you could do more for the people, but know that you cant! It’s hard trying to help them in their situation they are in -  but I must say that it is still very rewarding in other ways. Just being able to make some sort of a difference.

The guys we found from Mozambique were so excited when we brought them some decent food and clothes that some of them even started to dance.

After we handed out everything the guys let Des pray with them all. Some were a bit scared of the camera, but most really received the prayer even though they could hardly understand any of our English. Image

We are going to try and contact a Portuguese church here in Pretoria to see if they could come and interpret for Des so that he can properly converse, pray and speak the word to them.

One old guy that was also living in the field and could speak some broken English literally pleaded for us to come every week to the guys, as they had started to be approached by various gangs and asked if they wanted to do some special jobs for them in order to get food.

Please pray for them that they will make the right choice and not have to resort to breaking the law in order to survive here in South Africa!!

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,

I was a stranger and you invited me in,

I needed clothes and you clothed me,

I was sick and you looked after me,

I was in prison and you came to visit me.

 Hospital Outreach:
We have been involved in further hospital outreaches this month, leading teams to go and pray with the sick in state hospitals. We also went to the maternity section again and continued to hand out booties and hat sets to women that live beneath the poverty line that had just given birth.
While we were there at the hospital we also prayed for the matron and all the nurses working and involved them into our outreach.

Jo-burg Prison Outreach:
We headed off to the men’s prison in Johannesburg this month and had another outreach with all the inmates still awaiting trial.
It was the last trip in to the prison we could make this year, as the prison is closed to outsiders over the Christmas period. (as inmates get very restless and frustrated over this time not being able to spend it with their families – which then makes them more dangerous).

In the section we went into, there was still 1500 men awaiting trial, and 6000 total in that part of the prison alone.
The head warden was very worried about us coming so close to Christmas and repeatedly told us that these men are very dangerous and many still carry make-shift weapons with them.
He was so worried about our safety that he himself even came and stayed over the time that Des was preaching as an extra security.

However - The inmates were all very happy to see us, and really enjoyed the word that Des preached. In fact at one point they were all getting so excited with the word that they all started to get up and had to sing a song and dance before settling back down to continue on with the word. They were all very hungry for the word and were spiritually open and soaking up every word that was said.

There were at least 100 inmates that were with our team that day, of which ALL put their hand up to receive Jesus as their lord and invite him into their lives, and admitted they had done wrong.
They all stood up and prayed the sinner’s prayer…(which was so loud in unison - it sounded like thunder.)

We then proceeded to pray for those among them that were sick.

TESTAMONY:
As one of the inmates came forward for prayer, one of the wardens close by told Des that this inmate was completely deaf in both ears.
The top warden was still there as we prayed for the sick inmates and testified that this was a true fact as the prison hospital had done tests on him.
Des prayed for him in front of all the other inmates, and to the glory of God - the man received his hearing in both ears.
All the inmates were really excited by this time and amazed with God.

We distributed 1000 booklets in 4 various languages into the prison this month after our meeting with the inmates titled “The way to God” by EHCSA.

(May thanks to Every Home for Christ for their faithful involvement in to our ministry)

Please remember to pray for these men over the Christmas period, as they too are a part of the kingdom of God.

Vaalwater Township planning:
We headed up to Vaalwater one weekend to plan with some Pastors up there for some future crusades that we want to do for next year up in that area. We are planning for two crusades. One in the township region and one on a game farm for all the farm workers that have no transportation to get all the way into town.
We are also planning on a short term missions trip to come over from New Zealand and be involved in some of our crusade events.

Book:
We mentioned before that we have been in the process of writing a book with Journalist Alistair Gibson from GOD TV.  Well – we finally have finished it off and are now just waiting for some endorsements to come back before it heads off to the publishers.
Please pray that we get a good response from the publishers, that they will publish it early for us, and that it will be a really good seller.
We thank Alistair for the fantastic job he has done on writing our book. We feel really positive!
