Written by Des

We have been in Kenya for two months now, and it has been very interesting what we have seen so far, that is not a common sight in New Zealand:
"Street children that live and sleep and beg in the streets, beggars (especially old men and women), HIV/AIDS victims , old women that carry a load on their back that is four times heavier than the woman herself, local witch-doctors, and slum living areas that are so much more worse to what you would otherwise see in New Zealand.
It makes Des and I both appreciate so much more what we have in New Zealand, and what we have been brought up with!!

A few weeks ago we were invited to preach 'in a church that is located in the " slum " area of the city of Nyeri.  The slum area is a community of approximately 15,000 people within a few kilometers.
The community is made up of prostitutes, criminals, solo parents, beggars, and the general out-casts of Nyeri society. (the majority of this community is infected with the H.I.V virus of AIDS.  Many suffering with it full-blown, and dying........ Children and babies included).

In the past, the majority of churches did not want to have anything to do with this community.  They did not want them in their churches, feed or look after them, or have anything to do with them...... but praise GOD, that is all now changing, as the spirit of GOD has convicted them!! -anyway- we were invited to preach there, we both found it all to be a very humbling experience.

As the word was preached, we saw people come 'in crowds to hear the gospel.  We saw all those that were present, give their heart and lives over to Jesus.
As we prayed over different people individually for their sicknesses, we saw GOD do amazing miracles in many of the peoples lives.

I/ There was approximately six different adults and children that could not hear or speak, GOD healed them all.  Many of them have never heard anything in their life before.  As they heard sounds for the first time, tears filled their eyes, and they began to try and communicate.

2/ There were two ladies with hip deformities and one leg shorter than the other.
Once again, GOD healed them by lengthening their short leg and fixing their hips.  They got up and began to walk freely and without pain around the church, and threw their crutch and walking sick away.

3/ We prayed for many with "HIV/AIDS"  that were so weak that they could not hold any food down.  With later reports from the Pastor (after that church service.)  He said that many of them have now gained weight and are no longer suffering from various illnesses.
We thank GOD for both his love and mercy to these people, and give HIM all the glory for these miracles.

After people had been healed, they then went back to their homes and brought gifts for us.
E.g. Live chickens, rice, coffee beans, brand new carry bag, they started bringing up very much money to the front of the church.  Then the people presented these gifts to us.  Once again, it was a very humbling experience, as all these people are so poor and have nothing.

We did not feel to take these gifts away from the church, but first we had to receive them or else the people would be very offended.
After we had received them, we then called out a young man in the church that was getting married. Both he and his girlfriend were HIV Positive and both had full blown AIDS. They really wanted to get married before they died. So we gave him all the money we received to put towards his upcoming wedding. Then handed out all other gifts to different people we felt on our hearts.

The people were so excited that a "white man" would give away his money and gifts to them, that none of them wanted to leave the church. They danced and sang for ages till it was thick with the dust rising!

Church that day just went on and on and on, with much rejoicing in their hearts!!
