Hijacking Testimony PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ros

You know, a lot of things can happen over here in Africa. We need your help to pray with us for God’s protection over us every hour of every day!

Yesterday was Des’s first South African Hijacking. (Wednesday 8th May 2002) He was driving on the way out to the township at 6.30 in the morning in order to go to one of their high schools to preach, also with a short HIV/AIDS presentation. He was then hijacked on the main road right out there near the town ship (takes 1 hour to get to the township from where we live at present).
They (4 guys) managed to stop him in the car that he was driving, and stole from him money etc  – while holding guns at him threatening that they were going to kill him. They got Des out of the car and over behind bushes on the side of the road.

He handed over the money and car keys to them and they told him that they were then going to kill him. So Des said  “if a man is going to die – then let him have a few last words to say”… They let him speak - so he told them that they were putting a curse on themselves if they murdered him, also that they were condemned to Hell unless they repent and receive Jesus, and then rebuked them all in the name of Jesus Christ, they looked at each other with much fear, talked quickly, and then dropped the keys to the car and ran off... taking the money etc.!!
I am not writing to make this sound big, bad, fearful and gloomy – but I am writing this to you all so that you can remember us in your prayers – and most importantly to Praise God for his protection over Des, as he was in a very threatening situation... God never leaves us nor forsakes us, God ALWAYS looks after his own. The car suffered damages before Des was finally stopped – but Des was fine…..and “safe” in the hands of the Lord! Please remember us in your prayers!

Des continued his speaking at the high school after he hijacking, and had a fantastic response from all the students, with the whole school present. There was approx. 1500 decisions made to receive Jesus Christ. Both the school principal and the school councilor were delighted with the teaching and response of the students.

(This school is burying an average of 3 students per week from HIV/AIDS related deaths, as HIV/AIDS is the number 1 killer in South Africa for youth between the ages of 13 – 24 years).
